I saw this article on the Nation website. According to the article, Singha are trying to get big Premier League teams Chelsea and Manchester United to play an exhibition football match against each other in Thailand.
Apparently the game is only an idea at the moment, but Singha have just made a deal with the teams to become one of their global sponsors, and Singha beer is now on sale at both Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge football grounds. The article says that Thailand can definitely expect to see some famous names from both teams visiting the country over the next few years. The Singha company already has a similar sponsorship contract with Manchester City, who of course have had close ties with Thailand ever since ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra briefly owned the club back in 2007-2008.
Personally, I really hope that more big-name football clubs visit Thailand regularly. When I first came to Thailand, I was amazed at how popular football in general was, and the English Premier League in particular. Most of my earliest conversations in Thai were about football, and it seems like every Thai fan has a Premier League team that they support (of course, most support the big clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, etc., and don't realise that Portsmouth FC are the best!). Because of the huge support here then, it would be great if Thai fans could get to see their superstar teams live and in Bangkok. Hopefully the tickets won't cost as much as they do back home though!
